I’ve finished a table runner this weekend. I just have to get pictures taken. So I have gotten some sewing completed. I’ve really been working on getting my Sunday school class set up for the next quarter.

This is a quilt block made by my grandmother.
I have no idea the name of the block, It took me a second to even see a pattern in the blocks. I tried to take pictures of the hand-piecing on the backside, but I not real good with a camera. I have about 20 blocks that were in her sewing box given to me 18 years ago. I thought about completing the quilt but decided to treasure the blocks instead, maybe framing a couple of them one day.

You can see a book on a stand in the picture. My Mom and I collect Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks. They have great stories as well as recipes. The artwork in the books are pretty enough for display. I have a wooden recipe holder and I change it monthly with the seasonal cookbooks.

School starts the day after Labor Day for Chelsey. I’m ready to get back to a routine.

My Mother-in-law’s birthday is Monday, so I have to get her a present and get it mailed today. I made her the table runner, but I gave it to her early, but well, she doesn’t have people looking out for her that much, so I think more presents are in order.

Gratitudes:
1. Crayons for my Sunday School Kids
2. An Evening walk with Don when I know he was too tired to go.
3. Broccoli out of the garden

No one was ever harmed by receiving an extra present. How sweet of you to want to do that for your mother-in-law. I like the idea of keeping your grandma's blocks as they are -- I don't know if I can express why, I just know I like it *s*
Doesn't a fresh box of crayons just smell good?

I have a few of my grandmother's blocks, too and treasure them. She didn't really quilt - four children and a nursing job took up most of her time, but her mother did and she must have learned from her.

Your Grandmother's blocks are delightful, how lovely to have something that she made. I love the second picture - I know I've said it before but the way you set up your displays is so pretty.

Melanie, I think that what you are looking at is "Year's Favorite" from the Farm Journal Brackman #1129a. I'll email you the blocks and let you decide if your grandma made that blocks or one very near it. They both look so different because of the backgrounds she used.

I like the idea of preserving your Grandma's blocks as they are. How nice that you have something in your hands made with hers.
I live 20 minutes from Gooseberry Patch in Ohi--I met them when they were still working on their dining room table. We were doing other business with them and noticed the stuff all over and they were trying to tell me what they were doing. Gee, sure wish I would have joined up with them! (not that they asked me!). but it's sure been neat to see their company grow. And now they have a huge warehouse in the industrial park.

The idea to frame some of those blocks is a great idea. They will make wonderful colorful pictures on the wall.
My friend collects the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and quite often takes colored pencils to color-in the pictures. It makes the books all the more delightful.

The blocks are just lovely, what a lovely thing to have of your grandmothers. I discovered the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks when I was in the US earlier this year. I had to buy one, and got Patchwork Potluck. I will get more some day.
*hugs*

hat a difference the two colour schemes make to how you see the pattern. Your mom's reminds me of ribbon candy at Christmas...

I was given two appliqued blocks my grandmother made after her death. I made two small wallhangings one for me and one for my Mom - mine hangs in my studio where I see it everyday.
