Everyone has been showing Christmas tree skirts. Christmas tree skirts can be considered a tough call. You make this quilt and then you a hole out of the center.

A couple of years ago the LQS had a day-after thanksgiving sale. Fifty percent off of anyone item --- if you wore your PJ’s to the store. They opened with donuts at 6:am. I told Chelsey – 14 at the time---“ Mom we have to do it… You can wear some of my pajamas.” Does this mean—mine aren’t good enough??? We’re not even going down that road…. On with the story.

We got to the shop, took pictures even, as proof for the scrapbook that we did it. I purchased the kit for this tree skirt. It was a Thimbleberries pattern.
The fingerprinted picture doesn’t do it justice. Yes, there is a mistake in the green area of each snowflake. There is 1 half square triangle flipped the wrong way and it wasn’t until after the quilt was completed that I realized it. Keeps me humble….

When it came down to cutting the quilt after the quilt was quilted, I couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t close the scissors. I figured if I ever decided to use it as a tree skirt, I could just wrap the tree trunk with it. I like the frame it makes on the table. Even though it’s red and green, it doesn’t scream ‘Christmas’ as I can use it after Christmas too.

P.S. We even wore the PJ’s to Wal-mart and Shopko on our next stop…. We still laugh about it…

I wouldn't have been able to cut it either! It does look great on your table. What are you using for a tree skirt now?

LOL! What fun and what great memories you made with your daughter! Your tablerunner/tree skirt looks great! I collect snowmen, too -- have to get a picture up soon of my snowman corner!

I don't know that I could have cut it either. I have done it, but always in a seam line -- not through beautiful piecing. Looks great on your table. Much better without the hole *s*

You can use it for so many other things this way I would of found it hard to cut too. I love it with your snowmen.

The tree skirt I have used under my tree has no hole in the middle. I have a very nice foot for the tree to stand in. And the tree skirt is laying under it. If I make a new one this christmas it will not have a hole. Yours is so beautiful and I understand you not cutting any hole in it

You said you took photos of you in your PJ's. That must have been a very interesting and funny sight. Please share it with us :)
When I was young LOL... the whole class wear their PJ to shcool once.

Luckily the tree skirt I just posted about was assembled from 8 wedges - no cutting required. I think I'd have a lot of trouble doing that!! My mom's tree skirt is also one you lay flat on the floor without a hole - makes it easier to water the tree!

What a fun story and I love it on your table.

I would never be able to cut either... maybe you could find a "cutter" quilt... One that is beyond repair & not "worth" keeping intact.

Oh yeah, I forgot - I have done the PJ's thing too... (This past Friday - I ran out of brown sugar!)

I've always loved that pattern! Isn't it hard to cut a hole in it! I made one for my mom that I fell in love with and I had such a hard time cutting a hole in it! And I never made another because I had used very, very expensive fabrics and it was a tougher pattern. But it was so worth it! I know she loves it so that made it worthwhile!

I don't think I could have cut that either! And if you don't point out that the snowflakes are pieced wrong nobody will notice. I certainly didn't. :-)

I think your quilt made a great table cover...I couldn't cut into a quilt either! I have a beautiful quilted Christmas tree skirt that my mother-in-law made us a number of years ago. I'll have to post it soon.

I love your tree skirt, it's just beautiful. What you're saying about closing the scissors is just so true, I've lost count of the number of students that have asked me to cut the opening for them, as they simply could not do it!
How fun to go shopping in your jammies, I love it!

thanks for sharing the story of you shopping in your PJs. Any chance of a photo :-)

I wouldn't have cut that either. The tree skirt I made was made with an opening in it.

Very pretty! I agree it's easy to just wrap the quilt right around the bottom of the tree. No meed to cut the hole.

I like it better on the table, too....and, I just linked to this post for tomorrow's edition of The Bent Needle. Cheers!

It's much better as a table runner. Too hard to cut it up. Good story about shopping in your PJs.

What a lovely tree skirt ! If someone ask you, you can just say you are doing your tree skirt the Norwegian way :-) We do not have holes in our tree skirts - they go under the tree and tree foot. My tree quilt comes out 23.December and can double as a table cloth too, if I like it to :-)
The turned HST just adds lovely personality to your tree skirt.
I really like your faith story - so true.
