I always tell myself, ” You always have time for the things you put first…” I’ve been working lots of hours, but I’ve been coming home, playing with Ransom, knocking out chores, catching up on school with Chelsey---and sewing, almost an hour a day. I always think if I put things in the right order, I have time for everything. Confession: It’s a constant battle –I always want to put the quilting first, but nothing else will ever get done. I get lost in the sewing room.

I completed the rest of my postcards. My Mom and Mother-in- law each got their card in the mail and they were just like brand new. So girls--- it works!!!! I misplaced my Thanksgiving clothes for the bunnies so I made a new black dress for the season coming up. Easy stuff, no facings and a very forgiving pattern.

Quilting, remember the Buggy Barn pattern? Well, I’ve got the pattern drawn out, the fabric lined up and started cutting out the pieces. I cleaned a workspace before I began because I think the success of this pattern depends on being organized.

I excited about the challenge. I’m even saving up to have the quilt quilted by a long arm quilter.

You’ll probably be seeing the step-by-step process of the quilt, but I just love having someone to share it with…

Gratitudes:
1. Cheesy potatoes for supper
2. A’s from Eric and Chelsey---A good start to a new year
3. My Parent’s 56th wedding anniversary – I can’t imagine them apart.
4. My Dad’s 76th birthday- He says he gets younger every day!!!

I love the Buggy Barn patterns. Yes they are fussy and you have to be super organized or you'll screw it up (or at least I will). But they're really fun to do. I have one of their heart patterns that is similar but has pieced sashing between the hearts. It's moving closer up my "do me now!" list.

That pattern looks so interesting, but not for me right now. Have fun with it.
I know what you mean about putting things in order. Lately, it's been the 'puter first.
How do you send the postcards? Do they have to be hand-stamped?

What a great idea for your blog - to show a step-by-step Buggy Barn pattern. They are "different" - but so much fun. People can't quite imagine how they work until you see it being done. This will be of help to lots of people, I think, and will inspire others to try one of their patterns.

And you are so right about the order of things - I'm always wanting to put quilting first too. Because my husband is on the golf course and glued to the TV on weekends, and the kids are grown and gone, I can on the weekends. It's marvelous!

looks like a fun pattern, and I for one, would love to see it throughout its stages. :-)

Oh the order of things...if we could just get more hours in the day that wouldn't be such a challenge. I think that is something we all struggle with, especially since we think we can do it ALL! Have fun with the Buggy Barn Hearts. It is such a fun pattern to do. Just keep those piles straight and you'll be just fine.

I'm excited to see the progress on your quilt, I'm so pleased you're getting ready to do a little stitching, I feel your pain when you're not doing a little something just for you.
Have a great day
*hugs*

You're right about the Buggy Barn patterns -- if you keep everything organized and only move one fabric to the back at a time you'll be fine.
Congrats to your parents, your dad, your kids and you! I'm the same way -- need to get the chores done before I can quilt!

This is going to be a fun one. Being organized is the best way to go about Buggy Barn patterns. This one looks like it has a lot of pieces *whew* It will be fun to see it progress.

Can't wait to see it take shape - looks like a fun pattern - I just recently heard of Buggy Barn.

I'll be interested in seeing the hearts develop, too. Is it a paper-pieced project? I know the Buggy Barn name, but haven't experienced their patterns yet.

Sewing for an hour a day sounds good to me. I like the step by step approach. It's one of the good things about blogs, following the creation of the quilt from stash selection to binding - and I think you learn such a lot that way. Instead of just having the finished quilt to look at you understand how it was constructed. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

Sounds to me like you've got a good system here - keeping all your priorities juggled - with your family, your housework and your quilting.

I'm going to count that "you will probably see step by step..." as a promise and hold you to it, looks like a fun quilt.

Oh goodness, that looks like lots of little pieces - but I do love the look of paper piecing - and it sure does use up lots of little scraps! Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Cheers!

cool looking pattern, Melanie. I think I saw one at the quilt shop today but it didn't come home with me.

I just love those Buggy Barn patterns - such fun and so effective - I've only ever done the stars myself but those two coloured hearts are scrummy - looking forward to seeing them progress

I can't believe you are doing a buggy barn pattern. They have always kind of scared me. The look awfully difficult, good luck!
