I stole away minutes for sewing. The weekend was great: Housework is wrapped up. Laundry is manageable, and there are groceries in the house. We had lunch with friends on Sunday and scattered in some football and a couple of naps in-between. I was in the middle of the dilemma of ‘not wanting to miss a thing’ – time with the kids, time with Don and time with the “sorta Labrador” dog, Ransom.
So I just puttered around in my sewing room fifteen minutes at a time. After a while, the minutes add up and you have completed blocks. I’m not finished yet, but couldn’t wait to get some blocks seamed together. I’ve about decided to make this queen size so that I can put it in my bedroom. I love the fact that it is red and green—and at least when I look at it, Christmas never enters my mind. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas, but the season lasts such a short time.
It warmed up to 41 degrees this weekend. Nice--- because it cleans up the parking lots and driveways. It always amazes me how warm 41 feels in January and yet how cold it feels in October. We’re gaining almost a minute a day in sunlight. We are up to almost nine hours of daylight a day.

I think it is turning out very nicely. I love the Red and Greens in it. It doesn't remind me of Christmas, it reminds me of a flower garden in full bloom.

Looking good! If you want it to be a "winter" quilt you might want to try wool batting. I just love it, so warm and cozy! I need more focus! I haven't touched that quilt. The problem is the number of quilts in waiting to be machine quilted. So I tend to leave them in blocks until I'm ready for the next one! Sigh! But I have a solution! Keep well!
That is going to be a lovely quilt - your first 2008 Christmas project!
I use red (and greens) all year round without getting a feeling of Ho Ho Ho - but then when the Christmas decorations come out - look out - it's a festive affair *s* It's going to look great in your room.
It's looking wonderful, and not at all Christmasy. Dare I tell you that we got up to 76 here yesterday.....
I don't think Christmas when I look at that quilt, Mel. It's just a pretty one! :-)
It is very pretty! Small bits DO add up, that is exactly how I tackle de-cluttering and cleaning my house - in 10 minute increments. Even just one "10-minute" tidy works wonders - and is such a short period of time that I can even involve Little Boy. We are enjoying a warm snap here too - Little Boy was complaining that he was HOT in his snowsuit, but the snow is soooo wet that he needs it on to play outside right now. Funny weather!
Cheers!

Wow! that's what I call progress, I love the colors, it is going to be a great quilt...
That's going to be a pretty quilt, I like those colors too.
Lovely. Simple pattern, great colors. Good job!
Just goes to show how if you make the effort to sew, the time is well spent!
Just beautiful Mel hon, amazing what you accomplished 15 minutes at a time.
*hugs*

You encourage me to try quilting my friend. I've always wanted to make quilts, just felt I couldn't do it correctly. I enjoy sewing and have fabric stashed away, maybe it's time to get it out and start cutting squares ... even if I goof, it would be mine, mistakes and all.
How do you finish your quilts? By hand or machine?
That will be lovely as a queen size on your bed!!! Wonderful colors :O)
I love your new quilt top and nope, doesn't remind me of Christmas at all either. Red and green are good together for more than just winter :0). Glad you've been getting some time to sew -- me, I've been having fun with yarn but it's time to get back to the fabric!
I don't see Christmas when I look at your quilt. I like these colours all the time. It's going to be gorgeous on your bed.
Looks fresh and like spring to me! I can't believe sometimes what you can do if you walk in and sew for 15 minutes!
41 huh? We are on day 3 of 72 degrees! Then in 5 days we have a 50% chance of snow??!!
I love our color choices,,,I am thinking of redecorating by bedroom this winter...I will be watching your quilt as you keep sewing. Green is my favorite color...unfortunatly I have blue carpet (left from the previous owners) Dianntha
I love the quilt, so pretty. Sounds like you have had a productive day and week.
Its been warm here, so un-winter like. So none of my winter projects are getting done !
Funny, it's been 41 a bit here as well, just in a different temperature system!!
Great effort on the quilt...amazing what you can get done in 15 minute blocks, tracey
What a great design! You will have that baby done in no time!
Very pretty quilt and I also don't see Christmas when I look at it. But when that season comes it will be a beautiful addition to your holiday decorations.
Happy Sunday - Karen
