Summer is fleeing and I’m trying to cram as much into it as I can. In the Upper Peninsula I find myself trying to enjoy the outside weather as much as I can because the winters keep us really sheltered inside. I was talking to my Mom about the great summer but how at the same time I haven’t sewn as much as I would like to. Just not enough hours in the day…. She keeps me grounded and reminds me I have all winter to sew. But when you are a Quilter---It’s just not a seasonal activity for you…we all just have to find balance I guess. I’ve been working on My Journey of a Quilter block, but I hit a roadblock when I ran out of thread.
My Mom is rescuing me and mailing me DMC 838, as our Wal-Mart doesn’t carry it and it was our only source for thread. Another example of little things you should never take for granted….

I picked my first mess of green beans on Sunday.
I’m cooking them tonight. I have one tomato ready to pick but the rest are still pretty green.
Here’s a snapshot from my front flowerbed. It’s on the North side of the house and is shaded all but a couple hours of the day.
I just love impatiens. Marigolds line the garden fence.
This geranium has been my rescue project for the summer. It almost died on me, and I’ve nursed it back to health most of the summer. I think it’s just a beautiful color.

Last night Don & I road our bicycles to supper. We grabbed a sandwich at a local restaurant and rode home. We’ve only had one day over ninety degrees, the remainder hovering at around 80. The windows and doors were open all weekend, gathering fresh air through the house.

I’ve almost completed 6 fabric postcards, maybe snapshots tomorrow. I’ve also been working on a few things for Chelsey to take to school, 24 days away… Ransom entertained us all weekend. We’ve been doing some target shooting on the back of the property. He’s a born hunter and dances when the rifles come out. It’s been years since I shot a rifle. Don and I had fun and my aim is getting better all the time….

Looking back over this post… Summer is being filled with all of the good stuff… Have a good week.

Just love your garden photo's Mel, and oh my gosh how I'd enjoy it if our temps stayed under 90. We've had the last week up in the low 100's. Sounds like you've had an absoloutely fabulous weekend.

Your summer sounds lovely to me. I have had trouble feeling like it is summer with some work stuff hanging over my head but we have both girls home for two weeks so we are making the most of it with family adventures, nice dinners, and time to chat. Even taught my daughter how to machine quilt last night so she can finish her quilt when she gets home.

Glad you are having a nice summer Mel! It hasn't been as warm here either (amen) but we are in for a warm week again. We definitely could use more rain, so I am hoping that is in the forecast. That makes for less flower watering :o)

Your garden looks great! I have trouble working on my quilts in the summer. There's too much to do outside and I want to be out there. Also, my machine is in an alcove in the upstairs hall and the sun and heat pour in there. Too hot to work. I'm crocheting and will get back to the quilting in a few weeks.

Have a great day.

Wowza that garden is looking great . . . there's a lot to be said for a short growing season. I think I am nursing along the twin to your geranium *s*

OH my............ temps hovering around 80???!!!! Now I know why I keep pestering my husband to move north (the UP will do just fine). Of course, he then reminds of the "W" word....... and I say I can stay inside during that time of the year.

The flowers are beautiful and I hope the green beans were as tasty as they looked.

Hugs,

Nancy

Hi thanks for stopping by my blog. I know what you mean about red and white quilts, I have a thing for them too. Even red and white tablecloths! I love your geranium you are rescuing with the ivy in it. Beautiful summer pictures. Do you have fall quilts to display for the fall? I can't wait to see your pictures!
Blessings, Debbie

Impatiens are my favorites and they come back every year. Ours did best on the north end of the house in all the shade.. Enjoyed my visit here today!

Summer IS racing by - I've been dragging my heels on doing the kindergarten shopping list the school sent out, sigh. Kindergarten this year... college next I suppose at this rate!!! Hasn't reached a degree over 70 here all week - warm days are not often and our tomatoes show that! Your flowers are looking nice - marigolds do well for us too!
Cheers!

Lovely garden. I cannot say the same for ours. Seems like something is making everything die. Glad to read that you are enjoying the summer! Keep well!

You garden looks abundant! Sadly, ours is not. There is something in the soil that I think I may have brought with my last jalapeno flat from Vermont! Plats have died from the bottom up, making its way to the other part of the garden. Sigh! Well, I can enjoy pictures of yours and Libby's! ;o) Hugs!
