Life has been busy--- I’ve been stitching here and there, and I had serious discussions with on keeping things in perspective. Not always easy when it comes to doing things you love--- like quilting. Warning: On the outside chance this could be my only post this week, it could get lengthy. Wednesday I walked into my office/Partsroom to find THIS at my desk--- complete with snow hat.
Just a gentle reminder from my boss to mail Bambi to sunny California to his sister. I kept putting it off for lack of a big enough box. But I think my boss was telling me to get creative. So I did and Bambi has been shipped to Sherman Oaks.

Saturday found us in Appleton getting my princess the perfect pink prom dress….
Here’s a photo—without the fancy hair and jewelry and primping. As a totally biased mother would say----she’d make a paper bag look good. We had fun and hit a couple of scrapbooking shops and had lunch. Believe it or not I handled her well. My husband told me to be careful at patting myself on the back. But truthfully, I don’t always handle Chelsey and her feelings and emotions really well. So from a mom’s viewpoint—I need to bask in the moment.

Ransom and I are still snowshoeing regularly. There has to be a perk with all the snow we have.

Conversation at the mall: “Mom I need a new purse”
“Chelsey, you can’t afford these purses, they’re expensive. Go to Shopko (Kind of like Wal-mart). They have really cute ones.”
“Mom—I can’t afford a Shopko purse either--- I’m really broke. If I buy the fabric—will you make me one?”

So—with $7 of fabric, a button and 30 minutes Sunday night I made this. There’s even enough fabric for a bag for the next girlfriend that has a birthday.

Tonight this fabric will be cut up for my Sunday school kids.
I found it a few weeks ago In Ishpeming. Photos don’t do it justice. It will become cards for the kids. The puppies are sweet.

Saving the Best/Worst for last. I still can’t believe I’m showing this.
My ironing board that Chelsey and I share in our room. Yep—there’s the “oops” in the corner we had by leaving it on and knocking it over…lucky we didn’t burn the house down. I keep intending to get a new cover – honest. But I want a cute one. I know other people have them, but I can’t seem to find one. And if I go searching with Don I get his analogy that the covers cost as much as the entire ironing board…. He just doesn’t understand…..

I’m getting my Sunday school classroom ready for the next quarter—putting a little Spring in to it. The quilting isn’t going anywhere and those kids are growing like weeds—I don’t want to miss out.

Your daughter is lovely. I have a 18 year old daughter. Sometimes it can be a true challenge to get along with her. I don't think I could have even touched that deer!

I got my cute ironing board cover at Linen's and things - used a 20% off coupon so it was only $8.00 and you cannot buy an new ironing board for that! Before that, I had taken some wonder under - fuseable web, and ironed a piece of cute fabric over the center piece - that worked for awhile.
Chelsey looks like a real princess in that dress - how fun.

Cute purse and your princess is lovely! Raising girls can be a challenge, can't it? Of course, raising boys is challenging! LOL

the dress is gorgeous and so is the daughter. You must be very proud. At least Bambi is in a warmer climate. I would hate to show you my ironing board. I have read 5 blogs this morning that have ironing boards. Must be national ironing week. lol

Interesting parcels you get to package up Mel.....lol.... Chelsey's dress is just gorgeous, I'm sure she'll have heads turning. Enjoy your week.

Wow, she looks beautiful! And that dress is georgeous.

Lol about the deer head. Antlers I can deal with, but not the actual head.

Pretty pretty dress for a pretty daughter - funnily enough we bought Sarah's prom dress this last week too - thank goodness, another BIG job out of the way with no panic!

A lovely girl in a pretty dress! Wow! And so good you had an enjoyable mom/daughter time together. 30 minutes to make that purse? You should go into business!
There are quieter years ahead for quilting. Enjoy the young ones. The puppy fabric is so cute. It will make cute cards. Cards are all the rage now in the quilty world, so you still have your hand in it.
Blessings!

Chelsey and her new purse are adorable! I think it's great that she is wearing pink she looks like a Disney Princess. I'm so sick of the black low cut look that lots of girls are wearing.

I hope you get a HUMONGOUS bonus for mailing out Bambi . . . okay, I'll take the label 'city girl' but honestly *s*
Chelsey looks gorgeous - no need for fancy hairdo's.
Thanks for showing your ironing board - it looks well loved.

That is a very pretty dress indeed. Have you considered using a heavy weight denim and making your own ironing board cover. Use a flannel sheet or old mattress pad cut to fit underneath. That way you can pin to the ironing board.

Your daughter is so beautiful! I'm sure you are very proud of her.

Funny story about the deer! We ahve a few of those hanging here in my house. Those and a few other animals...

Love the purse, very cute! I really haven't done alot of sewing the past week. I just got my Civil War Diary Book yesterday. Now waiting for the cd to come. I don't really want to work on anything but that quilt and I don't even have the fabric yet. Mom and I are going shopping for that next week!

What a beautiful prom dress and a beautiful girl who is wearing it. Love that purse as well -- the fabrics are fun and she should love using it (and how great is it that she knew she could get you to make it rather than insisting on buying a new one).

Have fun with the Sunday school kids -- that fabric looks like a lot of fun!

I stopped by your blog by way of Mary's Little Red House. I had to laugh at the deer pic. My post today is of a deer in my yard. I grew up with hunters so your pic is funny.
Beautiful daughter. Hope you'll post another pic on prom night. She's beautiful now - she'll be stunning.

Your daughter is absolutely lovely. And it's nice you had a good "Mama Day" with her. As she gets older, they will be come more frequent, which is a nice reward.

A little thin-sulate and some cotton fabric make a great ironing board cover! I just made one and it's great - far more body to it than a store-bought cover. I found a tutorial on it here: http://u-handbag.typepad.com/uhandblog/2008/01/super-easy-iron.html .

Joan just beat me to my idea. Make your own iron. bd. cover. Then you can color coordinate and swap it out when you're tired of it. Life is too short to not have pretty things to look at.

I share your pain about teenagers...I'm in the same boat. enjoy em while you can, in a very short time they'll be gone and we'll miss em.

The purse is cute and so is your daughter in her prom dress. I don't have the most patience so I can relate to not always handling one of your kids well - you should pat yourself on the back for it!
