Scraps

Remember these blocks?
Well I made the half square triangles by drawing a diagonal line halfing the square.  I stitched on the line.  then cut away the excess and pressed. I tossed the scraps in the trash.
I got this magazine for Christmas.  It goes with me just about everywhere these days-- memorizing the pages.  I kept thinking about the pieces I threw in the trash. I couldn't deal with it.  With the price of fabric these days, I dug them out of the trash.

then I stitched them up.  It literally took five minutes to do the chain piecing.  It took more time to dig them out of the trash, honestly.
After pressing I have an entire set of baby half-square triangle blocks.

I don't know what they'll turn into ...But I can tell you it'll be better than just trash in a basket.

Donna from my quilt group takes these kinds of things from some of us and turns them into something really nice. Several times at our retreats we get a surprise from her that is made from our scraps. This year we each got a cover for our sewing machines!

I made a tiny quilt from my triangle scraps; I'll be posting it soon.

Keep sewing!

I started sewing a second seam when making hst's so I could cut down in between and have a second smaller set of the them. We can make fabric last forever :-)
I'm going to have to look for that magazine. It looks interesting.

Just found your blog from Neat & Tidy. Have enjoyed looking over your blog. We lived in Pembine, WI for seven years before a job change four years ago. Loved it in that area, although we didn't get quite as much snow as you in the UP. Will enjoy checking in with your blog.

I'm like that too. I hate to throw them away. I have a box of orphan blocks which is where I put stuff like that. in a pinch for a quick something to do or gift and that's the first place I go.

I also put any leftover binding in there. because really, who likes to make binding?

A conscience is an uncomfortable thing to have sometimes, but I think it always leads you to do something better. I have some (okay - lots) of those things, too, that will one day turn into something marvelous. I'm sure of it!
