Random Thoughts...

We’ re enjoying the holidays. Eric and I went for eye appointments this morning….I’m getting older—so are my eyes. But thanks to Rene Descartes I just upgrade the contact lenses.

I haven’t updated lately. Here is my ironing board cover I made. I returned about three different ones. I never found one that fit my ironing board, so I made it myself. The blue and white checks go great with my yellow and blue sewing room.

I wanted to sew last night. I didn’t want to spend hours picking out the fabric or days studying the pattern. I had a ribbon-tied kit from about a year ago. I just wanted to cut and sew.

Chelsey asked, “Who’s this for?”

My response,” Me… just me…”

“It’s not your colors..”

“So, I’ll tea-dye it…”

Sometimes you just need to treat yourself. When I bought it, the colors looked like ice cream, or jelly beans… I’m showing off the back—because I’m bragging, plain and simple. Truthfully the backs of my quilt Very seldom look like this so ‘one has to bask in the moments’.

When my folks came for a visit this summer, my Mom brought me a grocery bag full of bird’s nests.

I save them—poor birds hide their homes from me. I’ve decorated my tree with them, raffia and pinecones.

A bird’s nest is one of the purest forms of art. Made by a creature without hands--- Silly to some… but I marvel at them.

Both kids are home—as a Mom, I’m in heaven.

Beautiful, Melanie, both the quilt blocks (and you go, girl, that is some seriously good sewing and pressing!! :D) AND the bird's nests. I also have a thing for bird nests, and my 'real' (cut) tree this year has a bird's nest in it. Happiest of Holidays to you and yours!

Your tree is beautiful. I love that your mom saved you a bag of nests.

I need to cover my ironing board. What did you use to gather it underneath?

I hope you and your family have a good Christmas celebration. I've so enjoyed your friendshp this year.

I will be over for some of that home made fried chicken!
I never see bird nests here but they are bound to be about somewhere. When we lived in Ohio, bird nests were plentiful but never would have thought of using them for tree decor. Since then, the simpler things in life appeal more. Your tree is beautiful.

Oh Mel, We have such similar taste. I decorated with birds nest that fell out of trees from all around my yard and the river. I used rafia, pine cones, and some primitive bird houses. My daughter came from California and asks if I was stealing the nest from birds. She couldn't believe that I had so many and some were just perfect. That was a very fun tree. I love yours.

Have fun while your kids are both home visiting.

I love the ironing board cover. Good job.

Those blocks look great. Be sure to post a pic ... I want to see them after the tea dye. Good idea.
Many blessing to you all, Karen

Your tree is beautiful! And store bought ironing covers never seem to fix correctly - so good for you for making one up. Looking forward to seeing if you really tea die those blocks or not! Sometimes it is fun just to have a kit and sew, I agree! Cheers! Evelyn
