Old Keys

One person’s trash…another’s treasure. This was what I found in an old Ziploc bag in my church mailbox. Old-keys…a valued commodity in my heart. In today’s world on push button combinations for pass keys and card scanners for door openers…they are becoming more and more scarce. I even love the old keyring attached. They remind me of my Mom…I can remember as a kid playing with her keys with a key ring just like those.

No quilting in this post because I’ve spent the past two evenings ripping out stitches on the project I’m working on. You know it happens. I get frustrated because I want to complete my quilt and begin another. But I step back and tell myself it’s a hobby. It’s supposed to be fun--- low stress. So with Ransom on one side and Bruno on the other and a seam ripper in my hand I work.
Spring is so close in the U.P. There are parts of Lower Michigan that have had more snow that we’ve had. I’m tired of snowmen, mittens, and anything brown and gray. My Mom always taught me the merits of cloth napkins. I could say I doing my part to take care of the environment, but I love them for the simple reason that they’re made of fabric --- having plaid ones is a perk. Chelsey has been trained well to hit the clearance table and scarf up the markdown napkins. Even the out of season ones… Because sooner or later – the season they fit will come around….

Gratitudes:
People have patience with me at work—learning new things
No cavities—the dreaded dentist appt
The warm puppy in my lap

Oh, I love old keys too. I just wonder what they opened and the people who had them. Maybe a cabinet that held their treasures or the door of their first house.
Love your napkins.

Hi, Mel! Do you have a way of displaying your keys? I have several cute skeleton keys, but I just don't know what to do with them.

Hope you are all well. You're still on my prayer list.

Terrific keys Mel, I'm sure if they could, they'd tell some great stories. I'm fascinated with what's in the napkin lined basket. Are they spools?

What a special gift in your keys. I used to see boxes and boxes of them at flea markets when we lived in Europe. At the time I hadn' realized what a treasure they are.

Oh those old old keys, the ones that are long and skinny with the fun knobs on top are AWESOME! What a great surprise to get in your box!

Don't you sometimes long for a rotary dial phone? Remember the sound of it clicking as the dial swirled back to it's home position.

Happy belated birthday! I love your new dishes!

We are waiting on spring as well. The crocuses have bloomed but the daffodils may not fear well with the deluge of rain we are having. Ohh, where is summer?

My house is full of old keys - I need them for all the bedroom doors (we leave them in the locks) and the balcony doors, my desk and my sewing cabinet. I don't know what would happen if I ever lost a key because I don't think you can get them anymore. I bought 2 very OLD keys at an antique store here in Graz about 10 years ago - they are about 10" long and very wide - must be for some very old, huge door! I am going to have the biggest one mounted on wood with key hooks underneath. There is even a key museum here in Graz - on my list to do. My DH - well he just thinks I am a bit crazy, LOL!
