Letters from Home....

I've spoken before about my folks-- they are in their 80's.  They've never owned a computer nor have any desire to.  Though I pretty much talk to my Mom  daily-- especially with my Dad not feeling well, there is no email. We write each other letters weekly. One of the best parts of her letters are the newspaper clippings she puts in the envelopes.   My kids laugh when the obituaries are pulled out but that's just my mom.  I can remember as a kid playing with my grandmothe'rs bible in church and there were always old obits saved between the book chapters. My Mom always says--,'When you hang up the phone the call is over--- but a letter you can read over and over again.'

This clipping was in Saturday's letter.

Here is the completed Heart and Home block for July. I love working with the lighter colors of woool.  Something new for me.  The Valdani threads are beautiful.

Gratitudes:
Fresh Corn on the Cob
Cookouts at work-- No lunch packing
Pony Tails--- Entirely too hot to have my hair down....

My Mum too sends me clippings from magazines or newspapers. Sometimes no letter, just clippings of something weird & wonderful or of someone I know or even of something she just bought. I've had so many over the years that I now paste them into a scrap album. They're fun to look back on & like you....that's just my Mum. Love her.

I miss letters. I should write more myself, but email is such an instant gratification. Neat article, and could that be a newly completed quilt top serving as backdrop? :)

I wish I were better at writing 'real' letters. My mom used to write to me a couple of times a week (she was an executive secretary - before the term 'admin assistant' became vogue) so her letters were always typed but hand signed in green ink. Green ink because that way she could identify her pen if one of the engineers she worked for happened to get sticky fingers. Anyway, I miss letters. There is never a fun reason to go to the mailbox anymore. Heck I almost feel grateful for a bill. At least it's not junk mail *s*

I still love getting a card or letter in the mail. I hope you are keeping these from here; I wish I had kept my cards from my folks.

Great post!

Enjoy everything minute on your porch!!!

Oh, I remember letters from and phone calls with my grandmother. There was always mention of a death or two. I recall those conversations with a laugh and a snicker because they always started with "do you remember Mr or Mrs?" Often times I didn't so she'd tell me as much info about them as she could so I would remember. Thank you for the memories, Melanie.
